stake out: surveillance of some place or some people by the police(as in anticipation of a crime)（派遣*）去监视某人或把某地置于*监视的范围之内
例句：the hospital where the wounded witness lived was staked out.受伤的目击证人住的医院被监视起来了。
stake out 其它的含义：a. 立桩标出，he stakes out this field as his own. 他把这个区域立桩标出是他自己的。b. 把....放置一旁，留下.......备用。i have some money staked out for a rainy day.我留下一些钱以备不时之需。c. 公开声称，he stakes out his claim to the land .他公开声称对这块土地的拥有权。
所以二者的区别：后者更侧重于*的监视，前者可以用的范围更广。
英语的学习不是一朝一夕的，是需要长时间的积累过程，单词，语法，听力，这些是最基本的，不过最主要的是口语的练习，多听多练是最有效的，最好是可以经常和外国人交流，进行语言的交换，文化的交流也是可以提升外语的。

surveil，过去式、过去分词：surveilled,现在分词：surveilling; vt, keep under surveillance(名词形式)=follow,survey. means: observe a person，a thing or place,对......实施监督，或监视。例句：surveil the crosses by computers 用微机监控各个十字路口；surveil information on networks 网络信息监控；his house is surveilled by the police.他的房子收到警方的监视。
