The Happy door
Happiness islike a pebble dropped into a pool to set in motion an ever-widening circle ofripples. As Stevenson has said, being happy is a ty.
There is noexact definition of the word happiness. Happy people are happy for all sorts ofreasons. The key is not wealth or physical well-being, since we find beggars, invalids and so-called failures, who are extremely happy.
Being happy is asort of unexpected dividend. But staying happy is an accomplishment, a triumphof soul and character. It is not selfish to strive for it. It is, indeed, aty to ourselves and others.
Being unhappy islike an infectious disease. It causes people to shrink away from the sufferer. He soon finds himself alone, miserable and embittered. There is, however, acure so simple as to seem, at first glance, ridiculous; if you don’t feelhappy, pretend to be!
It works. Beforelong you will find that instead of repelling people, you attract them. Youdiscover how deeply rewarding it is to be the center of wider and wider circlesof good will.
Then themake-believe becomes a reality. You possess the secret of peace of mind, andcan forget yourself in being of service to others.
Being happy, once it is realized as a ty and established as a habit, opens doors intounimaginable gardens thronged with grateful friends.

The Goodness of Life
Though there is muchto be concerned about, there is far, far more for which to be thankful. Thoughlife’s goodness can at times be overshadowed, it is never outweighed.
For every singleact that is senselessly destructive, there are thousands more small, quiet actsof love, kindness and compassion. For every person who seeks to hurt, there aremany, many more who devote their lives to helping and to healing.
There isgoodness to life that cannot be denied.
In the mostmagnificent vistas and in the smallest details, look closely, for that goodnessalways comes shining through.
There is no limitto the goodness of life. It grows more abundant with each new encounter. Themore you experience and appreciate the goodness of life, the more there is to belived.
Even when thecold winds blow and the world seems to be covered in foggy shadows, thegoodness of life lives on. Open your eyes, open your heart, and you will seethat goodness is everywhere.
Though thegoodness of life seems at times to suffer setbacks, it always enres. For inthe darkest moment it becomes vividly clear that life is a priceless treasure. Andso the goodness of life is made even stronger by the very things that wouldoppose it.
Time and timeagain when you feared it was gone forever you found that the goodness of life wasreally only a moment away. Around the next corner, inside every moment, thegoodness of life is there to surprise and delight you.
Take a moment tolet the goodness of life touch your spirit and calm your thoughts. Then, share yourgood fortune with another. For the goodness of life grows more and moremagnificent each time it is given away.
Though the problemsconstantly scream for attention and the conflicts appear to rage ever stronger, the goodness of life grows stronger still, quietly, peacefully, with morepurpose and meaning than ever before.

Be Happy!
“The days thatmake us happy make us wise.”
----JohnMasefield
when I firstread this line by England’s Poet Laureate, it startled me. What did Masefieldmean? Without thinking about it much, I had always assumed that the oppositewas true. But
his soberassurance was arresting. I could not forget it.
Finally, Iseemed to grasp his meaning and realized that here was a profound observation. The wisdom that happiness makes possible lies in clear perception, not foggedby anxiety nor dimmed by despair and boredom, and without the blind spotscaused by fear.
Activehappiness---not mere satisfaction or contentment ---often comes suddenly, likean April shower or the unfolding of a bud. Then you discover what kind of wisdomhas accompanied it. The grass is greener; bird songs are sweeter; theshortcomings of your friends are more understandable and more forgivable. Happinessis like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your spiritual vision.
Nor are theinsights of happiness limited to what is near around you. Unhappy, with yourthoughts turned in upon your emotional woes, your vision is cut short as thoughby a wall. Happy, the wall crumbles.
The long vista isthere for the seeing. The ground at your feet, the world about you----people,thoughts, emotions, pressures---are now fitted into the larger scene.Everything assumes a fairer proportion. And here is the beginning of wisdom.
