两句句子其实没什么区别。
实际上，there was nothing else to do so we went home 听起来顺畅些，但是there being nothing else to do,we went home 是以一个更加proper 的方式来表达。但是这句话不大通顺，应改成：because there was being nothing else to do, (therefore) we went home.
