中国的喜字文化由来已久，中国人也非常喜欢喜字，尤其是结婚的时候，会在房门或者窗户上贴上双喜字，表示庆贺及表达喜悦的心情。
The cultural origin of Chinese character “Xi(happiness)” has a long history. Chinese people like “Xi” very much, especially when wedding, people will paste the character of double-“Xi” on the door or windows of their house, indicate scelebration and happy.
双喜字的结构非常巧妙，两个对称的喜字并列在一起，就像两个幸福的人相依，四个口字象征男女欢喜，又象征子孙满堂。
The structure of the character of double-“Xi” is very interesting. Two “Xi” are put together, like two happy people are together. The four “Kou (month)” indicate happiness, and indicate that the two people will have lots of children andgrand children.
其实，这个双喜字有一个很有趣的故事：
很久很久以前，有一个诗人叫王安石。他去参加考试。路过一户非常有钱的人家，外面挂着灯笼，还有半幅对联。他看到对联“走马灯，灯马走，灯熄马停步”，觉得写的很好，就记住了。
Infact, the character of double-“Xi” has a very interesting story:
Once upon a time, there was a poet called Wang Anshi. He went to take an exam. When he passed by a very rich family, which had lanterns hanging outside, and had ahalf couplet. He saw the couplet said "light with horse’s picture, the house walks on the light, the light went out and the horse stopped." He thought it was very good, just remembered it.
很巧的是，他考试的时候，就碰到了这样的题，“飞虎旗，旗虎飞，旗卷虎藏身”，让他写出上联，他就把路上看到的写在上面了。
Very coincidentally, his met such a problem in his exam. It said "flag withtiger’s picture, the tiger flies on the flag, the flag rolled up and the tiger disappeared." The exam asked him to write the other part of this couplet. And he wrote down what he saw on his way.
然后他考完试又回到那个地方，把考试中的下联写出来。其实，这半幅对联是为那家为女儿选婿出的，谁能回答出来，那家的女儿就嫁给谁。
Then he returned to the place where he saw the couplet after the exam, and wrote down what he saw on the exam. In fact, this half couplet was for choosing son-in-law for their daughter. The person who could write a half couplet to match it could marry the girl.
所以他们结婚了，结婚那天，有一个好消息，王安石考上了，是喜上加喜，他非常开心，就写了这个字，贴在门上。后来，结婚的时候，大家就都在门上贴喜字了。
So they got married. On their wedding day, there came another good news, which was that Wang Anshi passed the exam. The two good things happened on the same day, hewas very happy, so he wrote down the character of double-“Xi”, and paste it onthe door. Later, when people get married, they allpaste this character on their door.

喜字的来历：明代书生方明秋，赴京赶考经过苏州，见一大户人家悬联招亲，上联是： 走马灯，灯走马，灯熄马停步 方一时对不出，赶去京城赶考。到考试时，一看主考官出了一联：飞虎旗，旗飞虎，旗卷虎藏身 方不假思索，用路上看到的招亲联为对。主考官惊其才华，取为进士。回经苏州时，见招亲联还在，于是又以考官出的联相对，被招为快婿。为庆贺“洞房花烛夜，金榜题名时”两件喜事，他并排写了两个大“喜”字。据说，结婚时贴双喜，就从他开始。故此民间娶媳妇要贴双喜字，希望双喜临门的意思 但各地根据风俗，又有不同，通常结婚是，男方家中贴的是双喜字，表示娶，女方家里贴的是单喜字，表示嫁!
