　　stand：在表示容忍这一意思时，其词意与bear相同，但stand为口语，常用于否定句或疑问句中，用于肯定句时，其正面意义更强，暗示某人能经受得住各种磨难，具有不屈不挠的精神。如：He successfully stood the severe test.他胜利地经受住了严峻的考验。
suffer：为正式用语，常指*承受某件令人痛苦或有害的事，多用于承受抽象事物。如：He suffered cruel oppression and exploitation by landlords in the old society.他在旧社会受到地主的残酷剥削和压迫。

bear和stand意思更接近

suffer is to experience something causing physical or mental pain.

例如：He kept me waiting for 3 hours. I cannot bear the long waiting any more.

'suffer'如果用于表示’忍受‘那是比较夸张的说法（取其严肃意思），中文里也有这样的用法。
