答案千奇百怪的。
你这个问题，我之前问过别人，答案也特别多。
我说的只能是自己学习以来的感受，仅仅个人观点。

你所谓的交流无障碍，本身就是个特别泛泛的归类。
如果粗略分类的话，情况如下：

1.语音较好，听大部分老外说的，我都能听懂。个别词汇不懂，但不影响我对整句话的理解。表达仅仅是喜好之类的简单的回答，不能深入探讨问题，也不能阐述太多个人思想观点，那么主动词汇有3000多，真就够用了。
比如，四六级，别看认知词汇要求多，但主动词汇（随时可以调动出来运用的活词汇）也就2000到2500的样子（记得大纲对主动词汇就这范围的要求了）学的好的，这个阶段也可以叫交流无障碍。

2.语音好，日常的生活方方面面的都有接触，基础词汇很扎实。能表达一些观点，可以阐述一些问题。但还不能碰那些特专业的领域（比如信息工程啊，金融学啊，这类特别专业，特别独立那种领域）又或者，只精通某一项或两项领域，仅限个人工作、学习有关的方面知识（词汇）。有差不多6000多就够了。

两个阶段我都有经历过。自己算过词汇，主要是根据教材词汇表算的。。。数到6000也是个很费事的功夫，也就是个大概的范围。。。真去数那么仔细就太无聊了。

俚语这东西，局限性很大，使用范围很小。就跟咱这里不同地方，有不同语言风格一样。你出了这个省，再跟别的地方人聊，人家不懂的。

语言真真正正交流前提，是你足够多的听力储备。听多了，脑子储备多了，就特别想张口说几句，然后就开始模仿，跟读，复述。把听到的词汇，运用起来，随时说，随时用。交流就不成问题。有没有老外陪练，都不重要。

4000，基本上你高中所学的词汇就是基础了，所以一般高中毕业就可以出国了，但要和外国人交流还要会俚语，就是类似中国的谚语等习惯用法，希望能帮助到你。

所谓流利是从fluency来的，还有两个，accuracy, flexibility，这两个做不到就达不到流利的。如果仅仅考虑词汇量。这段可以参考：
Your vocabulary comprises all the words you know. But this definition oversimplifies the situation. Actually you have four overlapping vocabularies that you use in various situations. First, you have a speaking vocabulary, the words you use in general conversation. For most people this vocabulary consists of the few hundred words they use when talking with friends. Next, you have a writing vocabulary, the words you use when writing. This vocabulary is considerably larger than your speaking vocabulaly, consisting of about 10,000 to 45,000 words. Many of the words in your spoken vocabulary are also part of your written vocabulaly. But certain words like satire, analogy, positron, and logarithm belong almost exclusively to your writing vocabulary. The coloquialisms and slang that are part of your spoken vocabulary are usually excluded from your writing vocabulary. You also have a reading vocabulary, the words whos meanings you know but do not necessarily use in writing or in conversation. Words like plutocrat, elucidate, and equivocate might fall into this category. Most college students have a reading vocabulary of between 50,000 and 100,000 words. Finally, there is your guess vocabulary, words whose meanings you do not know exactly but can infer because the words are similar to ones you already know or because their context gives clues to their meanings.
Beyond these are words that you do not know and that you cannot figure out. These words you must look up in a dictionary. p. 330

1.若不牵扯一些专业性的东西 一般来说就是那些简单且常用的，(这可以直接通过一些电影或美剧学到)
2.最主要的还是口语和表达能力 (你日常中文怎么说的你就怎么说 切忌不要使用中式英语)
