When I stopped by the Chesterfield Mall earlier this week, I noticed that the Splash store there was having a major sale on everything down to the hangers, mannequins, and display units.

A sales clerk confirmed that that store was closing by the end of this month. But the Splash store at the St. Louis Galleria will remain open.

"Thank you for the last 24 years," the company said in an email to its friends last week. "But it's time to say goodbye to our Chesterfield store."

The email did not give any explanation for the store closing. The sale, with markdowns of up to 70 percent, started on Friday.

Splash had been in the Chesterfield Mall for about 6 or 7 years -- and in the Chesterfield community for total of 24 years.

The local store,Ugg Classic Tall Metallic Boots, which was one of the first places St. Louis consumers could find Uggs and other designer brands in this market, is a clothing boutique aimed at the more youthful and trendy set.

The first Splash store opened about 25 years ago in Rock Hill. Kyrle Boldt and his sister,Ugg Classic Short Boots, Joni, launched the business to bring surfer-style clothes and swimwear to St. Louis. But the store has evolved over the years to become more of a clothing boutique.

At one point,UGG Night Fall Boots, there were as many as five Splash stores in the St. Louis area. But the stores in Crestwood and at Union Station closed more than a decade ago. The original store in Rock Hill closed in August.
