College campuses have long been considered a "marketplace of ideas." Students browse through scientific theory, principles of mathematics, works of art, and literary compositions, acquiring knowledge and sharing their experiences and ideas with others. However, as the Reverend Greg Davis experienced firsthand, at today's tax-funded campuses, some ideas are more welcome that others.
When Davis attempted to exercise his free speech on the campus of Schenectady County Community College, he quickly discovered the expression of his Christianity was not allowed. While sharing the gospel and handing out religious materials to passersby, Davis was ordered to leave. Then amazingly, Schenectady police arrested Davis and charged him with criminal trespass.
Like so many issues ADF faces daily this may sound unbelievable; it's easy to assume such a flagrant violation of rights to be an aberration. And yet, we've defended Believers from coast to coast, who have been treated like "second-class citizens" and silenced simply for public expression of their faith.
ADF is committed to defending indivials like Greg Davis and I'm happy to report that, by God's grace, Greg was acquitted of all charges, thanks to ADF-allied attorney James Trainor.
We're making headway, but there's a long way to go with the ACLU and its allies dedicated to establishing the fictional "wall of separation" they claim exists between church and state. We have to stand and fight if we are to win! Please pray for our efforts.
