Smoking Is Harmful
At the class meeting our teacher read us a report in the newspaper. A certain student in a middle school smoked and he wouldn't get rid of the bad habit though his teacherand friends warned him not to smoke any more. He even stole money to get cigarettes and was pat into prison in the end. This really gave usa shock. As we all smoking is very harmful to our health. It does great harm not only to our health, but also to our mind, especially for us teenagers. Now more and more people all over the world have given up smoking or have made up their minds to do so, I think we middle school students are the future builders of our country. We should study hard and make progress every day. We meet smokers everywhere: in the streets, on college campuses and in shops. The bad habit has seemly been a common social hobby for male or female since the beginning of the 20th century. There are about 1.2 billion smokers among the 6 billion people in the world. In some countries the ratio may be higher. According to the research, in 2002, there were 71.5 million smokers, which made up 30 percent of the American population. This figure includes 3.8 million young people aged from 12 to 17 and 14 million from 18 to 25. What is worse is that about 3 million people die of the relevant disease derived from smoking every year all over the world.
