Spending nine months here at campus, I could hardly have time to chat with Mom for a long time quite frequently. Anyway, I feel kind of relived. Because I thought that Mom was always nagging and never permitted me to do anything I wanted to. That’s why I have been trying to run away from her in my adolescence time whenever Mom wanted to have a word with me. So it seemed to quite lucky for me to be admitted by Shandong University. I could spend five years far away from Mom. What a bright future!
The first year was fresh to me. I engaged myself in the colorful university life and never thought of going back home unless the vacation came. However, I didn’t expect to have homesick from the second year. I can’t stop thinking of the dishes Mom cooked, the bedroom Mom decorated for me, the words Mom said to me. I even wanted to be scolded by her face to face again. What’s wrong with me? Didn’t I hope to stay away from her harsh words?
The answer came to me one afternoon. I had lunch at McDonald with a friend. But I had ordered too much. So a hamburger was left uneaten, which was taken out with me. I walked on the street, talking with my friend, when suddenly my eyes were fixed on a beggar on her knees by the side of the street. She was a middle-aged woman in rags. There was a mug in front of her. People walked by; but only a few of them put some changes into the mug. I felt sorry for her and stepped to her, taking some notes out of my wallet. Then I put the hamburger into her hands saying“it’s still warm. You can eat it now.”and walked away.
On our way back my friend and I went into a clothes shop to have a look. When we came out and waited at the traffic lights, I saw the beggar waiting there, too, with the hamburger in her hand. She saw me as well. All three of us felt kind of embarrassed. “This hamburger…for my son…he always wants to eat one…but I never…” She murmured. At that time the traffic light turned green. She hurried away.
All of a sudden, I realized what a mother is like. Although the mom maybe poor, she will try her best to make a good life for her kids. It is the same with my Mom. Sometimes she may take extreme measures. However, that’s all because she loves me. As a daughter I should understand the love and devotion she gives to me and I will.
