whether的用法：

1、conj.（表示迟疑或两个可能性之间的选择）是否 

常用于ask,doubt,know,wonder等动词后（引导名词性从句）。

He seemed undecided whether to go or stay.

他似乎还没有决定去留。

2、conj.（表示两种情况都真实）是?（还是），或者?（或者），不管?（还是）

whether...or not（与or not连用，固定搭配，引导状语从句）。

You are entitled to a free gift whether you accept our offer of insurance or not.

whether用作连词,意思是“是否,是不是”,可引导名词从句或动词不定式 短语 。

whether还可引导让步状语从句,意思是“不管,无论”,从句中通常用一般现代时代替将来时。

但在有些动词后多用whether 不用if。如:

当使用 if 会引起歧义时应用whether 。如: “我不知道是否在下雪”应译为I don’t know whether it is snowing, 而不说I don’t know if it is snowing(因为if也可表示条件)。

另外，whether 引导的从句的谓语动词不能用否定形式，但 if 引导的从句的谓语可以用否定形 式。如:

当然，在口语中有时也说“if you can come or not”，但whether后面可以直接跟or not, if后则不行。如上句可改为:
