1、engineering students reported studying more than any other major 是一个完整的句子，在整个大句子里充当的一个由连接词since引导的分句。 engineering students 是主语，reported是谓语，studying more than any other major 是宾语。意思是工程学生们反映他们的学习量比其他任何专业都要大。
2、可以换成being cruel. on charge of 后接名词或名词词组，cruel是形容词，所以要么用它的名词形式curelty，要么用它的ing名词词组形式即 being cruel。两者都是一样的。追问1.为甚麼第一句中要用study的现在分词studying？

追答study 译为学习时，通常做为动词使用，所以名词形式一般是动名词。当直接用study做名词时，通常是研究的意思。
