战国时思想家孟子所著《孟子》和西汉初年刘安（前179-前222）编成的《淮南子》都说他是被恩将仇报的徒弟逢蒙暗害的。暗害的手段记载各不一样，有的说是用桃木大棒打死的，有的说是用暗箭射死的。总之这位盖世的英雄死在阴谋家的手里。
