一、用在比较级前，加强语气，表示程度。具有still，yet,much的意义，汉语意思为“(比……)更，还要”
这种句型意味着两个被比事物都是怎样，而其中的一个更为怎样。如：This dictionary is even more useful than that one.这本词典比那本更为有用。
This time he did it even better。这次他做得还要好。
二、放在它所强调的词、短语或从句前，用来加强语气，表示“即使，甚至连……都”之意
1.强调名词。Even a child can understand the book.即使小孩也能看懂那本书。
Even the movements of the heart and lungs are greatly reced.(冬眠动物)甚至连心脏和肺部的运动也大大减少了。
2.强调形容词。Bamboo is so strong that people use it to build houses and even high bridges over rivers。竹子很结实，人们用它建造房屋，甚至在河上架大桥。
The chain was even worthy of the gold watch.这条表链甚至配得上那只金表。
3.强调副词。I have explained everything,but even now she doesn′t understand.我已做了全面的解释，甚至到现在她还不明白。

从以上各例可以看出，even的用法不仅广泛而且位置也较灵活。大体上说，它可位于句首，也可位于句中或句末。但是，even在句中的位置不同，全句的意思或重点也有所不同。一般来说，even的位置应靠近它所强调的词语和短语。例如：
Even John doesn′t go out in the summer(so certainly nobody else does).即使约翰夏天也不外出(所以别人也不一定外出。)
John doesn′t go out in the summer(so he certainly does nothing else).约翰夏天甚至连家门都不出(所以他一定不做别的什么事情。)
三、even和if，even和though可分别组成连词，引导让步状语从句，意思是“即使”
Nothing could have saved him even if he had been tended without delay.即使当时他得到了及时的救护，也无法挽救他的生命。
It would not matter even though he should refuse.即使他拒绝，那也没有什么关系。
四、even as连用，表示“恰恰在……的时候(just at the same moment as)”的意思。
Even as I started,it began to rain.正当我出发时，天下起雨来了。
She went away even as you came.就在你来的时候，她走了。
