我个人觉得应该是three of the people。
three people就是“三个人”，很普通的用法；
three of the people就相对来说比较强调three这个数量概念，
eg. Among today's customers, three of the people chose DIOR while eight of the people chose CHANEL.

区别在于你用这个单词语气区别例如：
this should be a sufficient amount for three people
这个量应该足够三个人吃了。
这两个单词没多大的区别用哪个多合适。。。不过一般的用Three people的比较多

three of people，除非有特别的语文环境，目前还没见过这么表达英文的，见过的如：three kinds of people, three million people等
