世界范围的汽车生产区域将呈三足鼎立之势。
在世界各大汽车生产国中，美国、日本稳居前两位，德国位居第三，法国、西班牙、意大利、韩国等紧随其后，中国、泰国、越南的汽车业发展迅速。但从汽车生产的地区来看，三足鼎立的局面已显雏形；北美地区（以美国为主）；西欧地区（以德、法、意和西班牙为主）；亚洲和大洋洲地区（以日本、韩国为主），上述三个地区的汽车产量总和已占全球汽车产量的90％，并且随着三地区汽车业的发展，其垄断地位将越来越明显。
汽车制造业的联合兼并之风将越吹越猛。
在汽车制造行业，各大公司为了取得市场竞争的主动权，纷纷集中人力、物力、采用最新技术，设计最新产品，并尽量缩短新产品的开发周期。同时，为了充实力量，更多的公司和集团将进行兼并或联合。据统计，当今世界12个大型*汽车生产集团的产量已占有世界汽车市场。在汽车生产大国中，大型企业足以左右世界汽车市场。在汽车生产大国中，大型企业集团的垄断作用则更加明显，如德国大众汽车公司的汽车产量已约占全国产量的70％；日本丰田、本田和日产三大汽车公司的产量也接近全国汽车产量的70％；而美国和韩国大企业集团在本国内所占的比例则更大，达90％以上。
安全性能成为汽车设计开发的追求目标。
在世界汽车业的激烈竞争中，汽车马力越来越大，行驶速度越来越快，对安全性能的要求也越来越高。目前各大汽车生产集团纷纷在先进的技术上下功夫，甚至将类似飞机导航的先进电子装置用于汽车驾驶。
