1.一般为不可数名词，即表示“生病的状态”或“生病的期间”。
2.表示“某种疾病”的时候为可数名词。
如：It
could
be

illnesses
going
around
at
present.（这可能是目前的几种流行病之一。）
但这种用法比较少，经常表示的是第1种。
