I am writing to you in the hope of obtaining the scholarship in history to
support my study and some research work.
I am a graate student in the Department of History in the Northeast
University for Nationalities. In addition to study and research work, I also
write books. Recently I have finished a book on the history of the Oroqen
nationality in China, which is to be published by the World Book Publishing
House in the coming year. I would like to focus on that field for my advanced
studies.

一、提高自身实力是关键
硬性实力：比如申请者的GPA、语言考试(托福或雅思成绩)、GRE/GMAT成绩、本科院校排名(最好是国家重点大学和211工程的大学)，除此以外，大学专业要求各学科成绩优异，最好获得过奖学金，如有专业领域的实习经历或研究成就则无疑会增加胜出的砝码。
软性实力：如义工、学校社团、俱乐部等，让招生官能从学生所参与的课外实践中发掘其个性和特质，并以此来判断学生是否具备学校的要求。表现自已的领导力，艺术爱好，体育爱好，论文研究发表，实验项目经历等，这些可以体现在申请文书里，让招生官认可申请者的优秀，也是获得美国奖学金的最重要的方法。
二、寻找合适的院校
并非所有的美国院校都愿意提供奖学金给国际学生。一般来说，公立大学可支配的资金较少，而且大多会支付给本土尤其是本州的学生;私立大学拥有更多可支配的资金，也能提供更多的奖学金机会给国际学生。所以在选择学校的时候要仔细分析学校对国际学生的奖学金*，还有区分各个专业的奖学金的发放情况。
三、选择专业很重要
美国不同专业申请奖学金的难度也不相同，一般热门学科的奖学金申请难度会比较大，例如工科、商科、艺术类的专业，不仅需要申请者具备优秀的学术水平，在综合素质方面也会要求较高。
